Artist Statement
Art is how I express my creativity. I consider myself very creative. As an Art Pathway student at Drew Charter School, I have chosen to take all art classes offered. The classes I have taken are Photography, Photography II, AP Art, AP Drawing, Art History and Visual Arts. I love this because I get to focus on my passion(art) and learn at the same time. I enjoy expressing myself visually in different ways. I also use creativity in my engineering class and other classes that require graphic design. I use my knowledge of color, movement, and balance for anything visual I must create for my different art pieces whether it’s a painting or collage.
With my abstract work and ceramics I am focused on exploring shape and color and new techniques I have learned or taught myself.
I also love design and I really enjoy applying my understanding of aesthetics, functionality and purpose when creating things in engineering class. The process of creating ideas and watching them grow is so fulfilling to me.
I like to center my work around the black experience and black women. We are often misunderstood and there are so many bad images of us in the media I want to show us in a positive light. I want to change the world’s perception of black people and I want black people to see the beauty in themselves.
